Amazing Thailand – The End of a Brand

The End of Brand Thailand How mismanagement and mistakes turned a high-growth democratic paradise into a violent mess

Investors and tourists bought into the image of a tranquil kingdom of lush beaches and mountains, welcoming people, and stable politics—a “land of smiles” so alluring, it drew more than 13 million tourists per year. Thanks in part to the “Amazing Thailand” ad campaign—featuring glittering temples and stunning women—Bangkok ranked No. 1 in readers’ polls of the best cities in Asia by Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler magazines

However, things went wrong

One misstep was a failure of long-term thinking. During the good years, neither Abhisit’s Democrat Party nor Thaksin’s Thai Rak Thai Party, which first took power in 2001, invested enough in overhauling an archaic education system, which emphasizes basic literacy and rote memorization. Taiwan, Singapore, China, and India invested in university education, English-language instruction, and higher-value skills, and as a result managed to build innovative companies with a global outlook, and sizable English-language outsourcing industries. But Thailand’s government and its major business groups remained wedded to lower-value manufacturing for foreign companies

Unlike China or Singapore, the government failed to create effective incentives to help Thai companies improve their workforces and expand globally. Large Thai conglomerates, historically protected by tight ties to government leaders, moved slowly to embrace real international competition, even as Thailand inked free-trade deals with China and other Southeast Asian states

Thailand e-Marketplace

Shopping online in Thai web shops and SME e-marketplaces The present economic situation is a major driver of e-commerce growth in Thailand, because more local SME businesses are looking to market products via efficient channels on small budgets

Mr. Pawoot Pongvitayapanu, vice president of the Thai e-Commerce Association, cited a National Statistical Office forecast that the value of the country’s e-commerce market this year would surge about 40 per cent from last year’s Bt400 billion

A-ROI Asian Ring of Ideas

Suggestion Program – Employee Idea System – CI Continuous Improvement – Network of A-ROI learning networks

The Idea & The Challenge!

To help Asian firms of all sizes – to network and to help them learn about innovation and idea management by creating learning partnerships

We are going to provide you with a number of ideas – that’s why we call it ROI – a Ring Of Ideas

Actually, we started to call it A-ROI, which means Asian Ring Of Ideas. However, our ideas are of course not for Asians only – but for everyone who is interested in employee innovation and corporate idea systems

Learning about Idea Systems

If you’re looking to introduce an innovation and idea management initiative – let us first make one thing clear, and that is:

You already have all the necessary knowledge in your company to do that !”

What you need now is an independent teacher, trainer or advisor whose only job is to provide you with information and training in the necessary processes, procedures and guidelines to set up your very own idea management system

This teacher or trainer (or Idea Coach) must teach you and your staff, provide case studies of successful implemented suggestion systems worldwide and make sure that you avoid the different “blind spots” where things may go wrong

This Idea Coach will tell you that you may borrow some ideas or parts of successful suggestion systems, but in idea management it won’t work if you just completely transfer a whole system

This Idea coach should also be able to tell you about the advantages (and disadvantages) in using software – and hopefully will he or she be so smart to give you different choices for your needs, not only try to over-promote or over-sell his/her own program.

Select an Idea coach who are able to provide you with choices and who has an in-depth knowledge of idea management studies from around the world
