e-Auction Business in Thailand

E-auctions (B2G) in Thailand were launched in 2005, during Thaksin Shinawatra’s tenure as prime minister. Under the system, every government procurement worth Bt20 million or more must be undertaken via an e-auction

In 2009 twelve E-auctioneers fight scrapping of system. Three major electronic-auction operators – Biz Dimension, Newtron and Pantavanij have joined forces to resist a proposal by the Joint Private Committee on Commerce, Industries and Banking (JCCIB) that the e-auction system of bidding for government procurement contracts be scrapped

According to the three companies, using the e-auction system has enabled the government to save 6 to 7 per cent of its annual procurement budget of Bt250 billion to Bt300 billion (for government, state enterprise and local administration projects) – or Bt15 billion to Bt20 billion

eCommerce Thai Airways International (THAI)

Thai Airways e-Commerce Strategy 2010 While previously somewhat of an e-Commerce late bloomer, Thai Airways is set to embrace web 2.0 and mobile technology in a large way this year

The airline has previously maintained a website, however, it was more an  online channel without a mission to become a source of revenue. From now the internet will be a main channel for new revenue

The airline’s website – www.thaiairways.com – has been renovated and redesigned, giving it full online functions, from flight information to booking, payment and online check-in

Other areas of the airlines e-Commerce strategy include placing internet-based kiosks in department stores, shopping centers and public areas, providing passengers with access to all the services available on the airline’s website or via mobile phones

The airline’s E-Commerce Department was set up in the final quarter of last year, in line with its policy of gearing up for online business. It has deployed e-commerce services such as online bookings and payment for air tickets for about five years, but the services have been available without an aggressive supporting policy

Team Model – Employee Idea System

Team Model – Suggestion Scheme. A new an innovative organization form for a modern idea management is the “team model”, also (especially in Germany) called the “moderator model”.

The middle point for idea evaluation and idea implementation is the decentralized “idea teams”. These idea teams can be built organizational or by thematic relations and are made of several employees in a work group or department plus a manager and a specially trained “moderator (or facilitator). The individual team-leaders (moderators) are themselves employees from the work group.

Ideas are submitted to the organizational next level of idea teams who is responsible for the implementation of the suggestion improvement. Through the membership of a manager in the idea team the decision ability of the idea team is improved, and also implementation and rewarding is easier done. The group members are responsible for the implementation of the idea.

Decentralized Model – Employee Suggestion Program

Decentralized Model – Suggestion System. In the decentralized model, all ideas are part of the local work teams. Suggestions for improvements are submitted to the direct supervisor

The supervisor can accept or decline the idea, he/she can help refine or enhance the idea, and if the idea is implemented the supervisor can – within the organizational agreed award scheme – provide the award to the employee.
